Jarrod Fairclough – Since the beginning of The Muppet Mindset way back in 2009, it’s become tradition around these parts to do Trailer Breakdown’s for new productions coming up! We did it for The Muppets in 2011, for Muppets Most Wanted in 2014, and for the ABC series in 2015. And now another trailer for the new Muppet Babies has premiered, so we figure why not do it all again? Be sure to check out the trailer first, then read below as we marvel and oggle and other words meaning ‘look’.
Editor’s Note: There’s like 400 shots in this trailer, so we’ve just cherry picked a few of our favorites…
If there was any concern of dumbing down the characters for this new show, this shot in itself should totally end it. Gonzo is flying through the air, playing the trumpet, with no real regard for his own safety. Exhale, people. This show’s gonna rock. For kids. I’m not gonna watch it… I’m probably gonna watch it…
I love how colorful this set is. It’s bright, but not loud. It’s cartoony but not wacky. The design team has done a wonderful job.
This was the first shot I saw that made me want to do a Trailer Breakdown. The lighting and shading on these characters is far above average, reaching so high that for half a moment I thought that Kermit was a real puppet. Shout out to the character design team. I studied animation, and it’s not easy to get CGI characters to look that good.
Animal is crazy and plays the drums and falls down and eats cymbals. I’m okay with all of this.
I love how imaginative this show looks. Loads of those Disney Junior shows are there just to be entertaining. This one looks like it’ll be encouraging imagination as well as being enjoyable to watch.
Again, I cannot fault the character design here. The felt is so realistic, you can see individual strands.
You would think this weird blinking thing Kermit does would be a little unnerving. You would be right.
From the previews we’ve seen, it seems like Piggy isn’t always going to be sweet, which is perfect. I was concerned they’d dial back the attitude since it’s for young kids, but it doesn’t look like it!
A week ago I’d have been right in to the idea of Miss Piggy dreaming of stardom. But then I spoke to Frank Oz, and in just a few sentences he changed my opinion of her forever. But more on that next week.
Though I would have loved to see Skeeter return (#FansForSkeeter) I’m okay with Summer. She seems fun, and creative, and that’s my 2 favorite qualities to pass on to the next generation! Plus, Skeeter exists in this world as we’ve seen in the photos on the wall, so she could still rock up!
I assume Summer left her Muppet friends in adulthood to go to France and study art, where she drinks wine and takes in shows and uses words like ‘vol e vent’.
I love all of Fozzie’s design, besides the eyebrows. They look painted on, but they move independently from the rest of his fur. But that fuzz makes everything okay with me.
It’s only on screen for half a second, but Fozzie’s ears wiggle! They haven’t done that since early 1977! I can only assume that means Fozzie grew out of it after childhood and before Season 2 of The Muppet Show.
Gonzo has a chili pepper shirt! I love his chili pepper shirt. Joe from ToughPigs hates his chili pepper shirt. I love that his chili pepper shirt will urk Joe from ToughPigs.
Animal wants to eat glue and glitter. That explains Animal’s adult life perfectly.
This is the picture I’m going to put on the barrel of cookies during this diet I’m on. I can’t override these faces!
My favorite, and possibly the most important clip of this breakdown! That, ladies and gentlmen, is actual footage from Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark, as discovered by Muppet Wiki! This means that Muppet Babies will continue the tradition from the old cartoon series of using old film footage in their adventures! Hallelujah!
This was the look my folks gave me when I told them there was a new Muppet Babies series coming. They aren’t very excited.
That’s a chicken on Gonzo’s head. If you haven’t watched the Muppet Babies Show & Tell clips, that chicken is named Camilla! Also, who’s flying that plane? Coz Summer is the only one not there, and penguins can’t fly…
I don’t know what this is, but Gonzo is dressed exactly like I am when I hit the clubs.
Muppet Babies is premiering March 23rd at 10am ET! And on March 23rd at 10:30am ET, we’ll be posting our review! We can’t wait to make our dreams come true.
