Muppet Newsflash

Last week actress Rita Moreno was honored at the Kennedy Center for her contributions to the entertainment industry.  Actress Rosie Perez and everyone’s favorite drummer, Animal, appeared to recreate the classic ‘Fever’ sketch from Rita’s episode of The Muppet Show.  It’s heartwarming to see Rita’s reaction when the bit starts.  She’s a big fan of the classic piece, and she even features it on the home page of her website.  We’re glad we can finally share the tribute – we picked a bad time to go camping!

With Christmas over, The Muppets were still in the giving spirit, and we were treated to The Electric Mayhem’s rendition of Paul Simon’s ‘Kodachrome’.  A lot of people online are now requesting a live concert DVD of the band, and while I don’t see that happening, I think we’ll get more of these kinds of videos.

Sesame Street composer Dave Conner, who wrote the songs such as The Bathtub of Seville, and (one of my favorites) Let’s Lay an Egg passed away last week.  He also wrote the opening theme to Caveman Days and The Adventures of Prairie Dawn.  Thanks for everything, Dave.

When The Muppets began on ABC, the masses began asking for an Up Late with Miss Piggy mug, which are a featured prop on the show.  Well, your calls have been answered, as Diamond Select and Entertainment Earth are now taking pre-orders for the mug, expected to ship out in July.  They cost $14.99, and you can order one here!

The good people at Funko have released previews of their next line of Sesame Street figures!  Soon you’ll be able to add Elmo, The Count and Grover to your collection, as well as a 6 inch figure of Big Bird and Snuffy! I can’t wait to show people my Snuffy figure, only to have it strangely disappear before they walk in to the room.
